OUT NOW @boogeythebeat ‘a debut album "Cousins" via @redmusicrising redmusicrising“Higher” featuring @sebastiangaskin has been added to @cbc_music and is eligible for voting on the CBC Music Top 20!The album has started charting at College Radio and has hit #8 on the Earshot National Electronic Chart and debuted at #40 on the Earshot National Top 50 Chart!Winnipeg-based, Anishinaabe DJ and producer Boogey The Beat shares his highly anticipated debut album, Cousins. Previously known for his collaborations with The Halluci Nation (formerly a Tribe Called Red) and Snotty Nose Rez Kids, in 2023, Boogey The Beat has emerged from behind the curtain to create and compose an album of his own design. Described by CBC Music as “an explosive and expansive musical triptych,” Cousins sees Boogey team up with an ebullient crew of co-conspirators, among them Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Sebastian Gaskin, and Lightning Cloud, to bring his exhilarating interpretation of pow wow step to life.
In homage to the sounds of a sundance, Boogey builds each song around a percussive heartbeat, then adds vocals and other instruments, letting the drum lead the way. He remembers walking up to one of his first childhood pow-wows and hearing the big drum, a guiding force that stays with him today. While he hopes his music will resonate with revellers from all walks of life, he beams at the thought of Indigenous youth hearing pow wow and sundance songs for the first time at one of his shows. “It’s important to not forget that at one time it was illegal for us to sing these songs, play these drums, and go to these ceremonies,” says Boogey The Beat. “Now it’s a time for celebration and for us to take over the main stage.”
Cousins packs a stylistically diverse punch that bounds between all sorts of genre territory, elevating the imprint of each track’s collaborator, each of Indigenous descent, and bringing a whole additional dimension to the title Cousins. “I wanted to push myself forward as my own artist,” concludes Boogey, who ideated, produced, and mixed the album in its entirety. “This is the first project I can truly call mine.”

@jenngrantmusic’s Champagne Problems is out today. On her eighth studio record Jenn celebrates twelve unique collaborations with some of the most celebrated artists in Canada- Kim Harris, Aquakultre, Basia Bulat, Bahamas, Dan Mangan, Hannah Georgas with Amy Millan, Kevin Drew, Ria Mae, Josh Qaumariaq, Slow Leaves, Joel Plaskett and Tim Baker
Speaking on the record release Jenn says, “This album I made for you, is something very special. It’s a collaboration of top Canadian artists and friends who came together to write music about the loves, longings and all of the wonders of the soul. There’s a freedom and an ease to these songs. And they fit together in a way that was mostly effortless. It shows growth, has hope, and is something from home. The Canada that I honour is the one that will learn from its mistakes; is rich in diversity, and feels like a quilt your mother made you. With all the colours, edges, and softness we have to offer.”
To celebrate the release today, Jenn shares “Lion’s Mane”, her collaboration with Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew. The song is accompanied with a beautiful video directed and filmed by Jenn’s husband Daniel Ledwell. Daniel is also the co-producer on Champagne Problems.
“Lion’s Mane” follows singles “Judy” (ft. Kim Harris), “How I Loved You” (ft. Amy Millan, Hannah Georgas), “All of This Time” (Bahamas) and most recently “One Hit Wonders” with Ria Mae which is currently #16 on the CBC Music Top 20.
